Christopher Youmans & The Sound Agency
Christopher Youmans is an award-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist, and bandleader of the Berkeley-based retro pop/soul group, The Sound Agency. The group consists of core members: Christopher Youmans (guitar and lead vocals), Adam Wilson (drums), Colin Deas (bari sax, keys, vocals), and Pete Egan (keys) with a supporting rhythm section, horn section, and backing vocalists. The group will be releasing their debut EP titled ‘Make Things Right’ on Friday, February 5. With their music drawing parallels to Amy Winehouse, Stevie Wonder, and Chic, the Sound Agency’s live show brings to life a tasteful blend of 1970s funk/disco and 1960s pop/rock. Christopher Youmans & The Sound Agency spent the entirety of 2015 recording ‘Make Things Right’, collaborating with a string orchestra from the UC Berkeley Symphony and a brass section from the campus jazz ensemble. During the recording, the EP’s thirty musicians attended school at UC Berkeley, the California Jazz Conservatory, and Ex’pression College for Digital Arts. The songs on record deal with themes of love, forgiveness, and regret, revealing stories of a troubled relationship from its initial spark to final end. The group’s release show on 2/5 at Neck of the Woods marks the first of many upcoming performances throughout the Bay Area.
Johnny Soultrain
Rick James meets Jack White meets The Doors, with varying amounts of Eastern European-alcohol induced insanity. Goes great with Whiskey. Always.
Jonny Zywiciel
Musical destiny had its roots in Jonny Zywiciel's youngest years. He began banging on his family's grand piano as soon as he learned how to walk, and would sit there for hours, captivated, creating melodies and singing along as best he could. He spent his youth listening to pop and rock music, which finally prompted him to pick up a guitar at age 13. He played in many different bands and acts throughout his middle and high school years, headlining the historic Bottom of the Hill club in San Francisco, The Starry Plough in Berkeley (where Journey got their start) while honing his skills as a guitarist and songwriter. Inspired heavily by Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, and John Mayer, Jonny articulates his vision as to “Tour the world, write timeless songs with lyrical guitar work, punctuated by captivating chords and unforgettable melodies.”
