Fashionista Boyfriend
It was through the discovery of an old Casio keyboard in a dusty attic that launched the idea for a retro-fitted, poppy Chillwave inspired project. Fashionista Boyfriend is the work of Casey Groat from Sacramento, CA: a musician with many backgrounds as a multi-instrumentalist, audio engineer, and a vocalist. Having started out as just a kid with an interest in making noises with the computer in his bedroom, the project has matured into themes such as love and loss, as well as experimenting with samples and songs with meaning and purpose.
Reisender began when singer-songwriter Paul Conroy bought a neglected mandolin for 40 euros from a Flea Market in Stuttgart, Germany. The first few songs were written under bridges and on street corners of 20 different cities in Europe. What began as scrappy busker tunes eventually evolved into an eclectic mix of 80s-reminiscent synths and drums, grooving mandolin riffs, and unadulterated indie pop hooks. Conroy formed a band developed a signature sound, earning them opening bills for national touring bands such as Hippo Campus and Eisley. In 2018, guitarist and trombonist Rurik Schtaklef joined Reisender, and the pair have started performing and writing as a dynamic two-piece. Conroy's greatest personal influences are Paul Simon, Damon Albarn, Pixies, and Paul McCartney.
Dream Reporter
Hailing from London, Dream Reporter is immediately captivating. Her voice is unique, powerful in its understated, ethereal quality. It evokes a curious combination of the modern and the instantly familiar with songs that are both intimately personal and explorations of the world at large. Universal themes of loss, triumph, and growth are distilled through autobiographical lyrics. They’re words that may be often felt but not often spoken. Most are born out of unexpected sparks, captured in a voice memo and followed to their logical conclusion as a sonic painter explores her canvas.
